[Satellite TODAY 05-13-10] Russian international and long-distance operator Rostelecom has contracted Hughes Network Systems to supply its HX System to provide a variety of broadband communications services in Russia’s eastern region, Hughes announced May 12.
Hughes said it won the contract over alternative satellite and terrestrial wireless solution suppliers due to its flexibility in configuring both multiple star and mesh networking topologies.
Hughes will place Rostelecom’s HX gateway in Khabarovsk, Russia, with multiple remote HX200 broadband data routers for star applications and HX260 mesh routers for mixed voice and data services. Russian satellite company ARD-Satcom will integrate the service.
The HX system aims to provide the region’s government agencies, local authorities, corporations, and small and medium enterprises with broadband satellite Internet access, high-speed data, videoconferencing, and telephony.
Financial details of the contract were not disclosed.
