Cobham Satcom has launched new radio communications offering for the maritime sector. It has launched a new Very High Frequency (VHF) radio, the SAILOR 7222 VHF DSC Class A, announced July 2. This is a next-generation SOLAS classified maritime radio with new performance features. Cobham hopes this radio will raise safety standards in the maritime industry by improving communications at sea.

One highlight of the SAILOR 7222 VHF DSC Class A is an extended replay feature, which builds on a selling point of the SAILOR range to offer users playbacks of up to 480 seconds, and enables message verification. The radio’s VHF transceiver design aims to give vessels a powerful and reliable connection during critical situations and in all conditions at sea.

“With IMO [International Maritime Organization] pushing the safety standards in the sector ever higher to offer greater protection to seafarers and ships, we believe SAILOR 7222 VHF DSC Class A will play a critical role in offering safe, reliable, and timely compliance with the new regulations, including the updated [bridge alert management] guidance coming into force in August 2021,” Niels Peter Agdal, director of Radio, Safety and Tracking at Cobham Satcom said in a statement.
