Asian support vessel operator Uniwise Offshore has selected Thaicom’s high-speed maritime broadband service, Nava Fibre-to-the-Ship (FTTS) to enhance operations for its entire fleet of more than 30 vessels, the companies announced Aug. 6.

The operational improvements include: crew welfare and fleet management services; optimized electronic document handling; and safer, cost-effective ship-to-ship and ship-to-shore communications. Nava FTTS supports high data rates for operational efficiency with wide area satellite coverage across Asia Pacific and incorporates an L-band backup solution.

Thaicom launched the Nava FTTS service earlier this year, expanding its broadband service platform to support the maritime industry’s digital transformation toward “smart ship” applications that require high-speed broadband connectivity. Financial details of the contract were not disclosed.
