[10-30-07 – Satellite Today] BSkyB said Oct. 29 that it has reached 1 million broadband customers.
BSkyB launched its Sky Broadband offerings in 2006 following the acquisition of EasyNet. BSkyB claims it has reached 1 million subscribers faster than any other broadband provider in the United Kingdom, and the operator and hopes to capture up to 3 million subscribers by 2010.
“Sky has been the fastest growing broadband provider this year, representing over 50 percent of the market’s growth in [the first half of 2007],”Daniel Kerven, a media equity analyst at UBS, said in a research note issued Oct. 30. "Sky stated that 70 percent of customers are taking a paid for service and 30 percent are new to Sky, highlighting that the ability to offer a triple play and significant value on voice and broadband is helping to drive Sky’s growth.”
