EMS To Keep Satellite Unit

By Staff Writer | July 11, 2003

Atlanta-based EMS Technologies [Nasdaq: ELMG] announced Friday that it plans to keep its startup satellite networks business when it sells off its Montreal-based commercial space division later this year. The commercial space division manufactures antennas and other hardware for space and satellite communications, radar, surveillance, military countermeasures, and other specialized uses.

Alfred G. Hansen, EMS president and CEO, said the satellite networks unit “is not yet material to the company’s financial statements, but we believe it could make a major contribution in the future. SatNet’s hubs and terminals are based on the industry-standard DVB-RCS architecture that EMS helped to develop. The SatNet initiative also will support the development of broadband capabilities in our other businesses.”
