GlobeCast Contract Renewed

By Staff Writer | June 2, 2003

Channel Sun France, a subsidiary of South Korean public broadcaster KBS Media, has renewed its contract with GlobeCast to provide channel distribution using GlobeCast’s digital direct-to-home (DTH) distribution platform via Eutelsat’s HOT BIRD satellite. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The renewal follows the recent acquisition of Channel Sun France by KBS Media. Channel Sun France targets the estimated 570,000 South Korean expatriates living in Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and Russia. GlobeCast, a satellite broadcasting subsidiary of France Telecom [NYSE: FTE], is providing Channel Sun with end-to-end network distribution, including downlink of KBS programming from PAS-10, fiber connectivity to Channel Sun studios in Paris, signal return to GlobeCast’s teleport in Paris, multiplexing, encryption and uplink to HOT BIRD. In addition to HOT BIRD, GlobeCast provides KBS with distribution in Australia and New Zealand via its DTH platform via the Optus B3 satellite.
