[Via Satellite 05-11-2016] RigNet is now selling Ka-band satellite connectivity to customers in the energy sector from Inmarsat’s Global Xpress (GX) High Throughput Satellite (HTS) network. Inmarsat selected RigNet as its preferred partner to launch GX into the oil and gas industry in 2013. In January 2014, RigNet purchased Inmarsat’s enterprise energy business.

GX is comprised of a system of three satellites, providing worldwide coverage in Ka-band from a single operator. According to RigNet, the design of GX simplifies the remote installation process and decreases the time for deployment, while providing consistency in hardware for ease of sparing and maintenance.

“Leveraging GX to deliver a hybrid solution that combines traditional and next-generation technology for our clients is where we see the industry going,” said Marty Jimmerson, CEO of RigNet.
