[Via Satellite 10-21-2015] ND SatCom has partnered with Ruag Defence to incorporate its new Skywan 5G VSAT modem in a portable manpack terminal into the Ruag Aranea Communication Solution. This cooperation gives Ruag Defence the ability to offer more advanced mobile terminal solutions to customers.

ND SatCom’s Skywan 5G uses a unique hardware design for full functionality on board. The device works with star, multi-star, hybrid or full mesh networks and also supports switching to another topology over time. Skywan 5G can play any network role such as hub or remote and can be integrated into manpacks, as well as flyaways or other VSAT solutions.

The Ruag Aranea Communication Solution, now including the Skywan 5G, is designed for situations requiring multiple different organizations to communicate together, particularly on short notice. This new solution connects all available technologies accessible today, including radio channels, Terrestrial Trunked Radio (TETRA), 3G/4G/LTE, Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN), line of sight and now, satellite communication.

“We are very proud to offer the Skywan 5G technology to new partners, allowing them to build their own products. This includes completely mobile ad-hoc networks with geo-redundancy. Hub-less networks consisting solely of manpack terminals will become a game-changer in the VSAT market for disaster recovery and also in tactical military networks,” said Michael Weixler, head of product management, ND SatCom.
