[Via Satellite 05-15-2014] KVH Industries’ new Internet Protocol (IP) MobileCast content delivery service for its mini-Very-Small-Aperture Terminal (VSAT) broadband satellite network is now live. This solution will allow maritime customers to have access to daily digital newspapers, television news, sports updates, music, new-release blockbuster movies and TV programs through a multicasting service, even in the middle of the ocean.

KVH successfully completed beta testing of the IP-MobileCast service, and it will be available immediately to current mini-VSAT broadband customers.

With the IP-MobileCast service, content is delivered over the top of the network, so the charge is for the content itself, and not the delivery. Also, the multicasting transmission process does not affect onboard data speed for the mini-VSAT broadband network. Another feature that is ensured by the service is digital rights management or copyrighted material, so that Hollywood movies and television programs can be accessed.
