Qantas To Deliver Pay-As-You-Go Aerial Surveillance

By Staff Writer | February 22, 2008

[Satellite Today – 2-22-08] Qantas Defence Services has launched an hourly aerial surveillance system to customers who do not want the financial overhead of owning or leasing surveillance aircraft, the company announced Feb. 21.
The system uses Inmarsat‘s Swift 64 or SwiftBroadband service to deliver live video streaming to a customer’s personal computer on the ground.
"Introduction of this surveillance by the hour enables us to add value to our customers by introducing a flight operations service to support customers with a need to gather data from aerial platforms for missions such as geological survey and disaster relief management,” Steve Roughsedge, commercial manager at Qantas, said  in a statement.
