ViXS Develops Silicon SoC for Ultra-HD

[Via Satellite 01-09-2015] ViXS Systems announced its new XCode 6800 family of media processing System-on-a-Chip (SoC) products that, according to the company, represent the first silicon solution to support 4K Ultra-HD with High Dynamic Range (HDR) and 12-bit color depth. The XCode 6800 continues to support current and previous video standards, while paving the way for higher quality video.

ViXS developed the XCode 6800 in close collaboration with HDR technology providers on a color tone mapping scheme that converts HDR-based content to regular HD or Ultra-HD so manufacturers can make products that will be backward and forwards compatible. According to ViXS, industry consensus is that 12-bit color more closely represents how the human eye perceives contrast. The XCode 6800 delivers 1080p HD at 30, 60, 120, and 240 frames per second, and Ultra HD 2160p60 at 10-bit or 12-bit color.
