[Via Satellite 10-10-2014] South Africa-based Telemedia and Russia’s Gazprom Space Systems (GSS) have begun broadcasting two television channels for Televisão Publica De Angola (TPA), an Angola government TV organization. The channels, TPA1 and TPA 2, along with select radio channels are being broadcasted using the Yamal 402 southern beam. The new satellite service is also expected to enable reporting of news and current events from the outlying regions of Angola to the capital city of Luanda.

“TPA decided to use Yamal 402 satellite due to its high [Effective Isotropic Radiated Power] EIRP of the transponder, which is particularly attractive for Direct-to-Home (DTH) video in Angola, and it also enables them to cover all the regions of Angola including Cabinda and the Portuguese-speaking Islands of Sao Tome and Principe. Apart from that, wide coverage makes it possible to receive the TV channels in the embassies of Angola throughout Sub-Saharan Africa,” said Peter Bretherick, managing director of Telemedia.
