[Via Satellite 09-12-2014] HBO Latin America (HBO LAG) has entered a new multi-year, multi-transponder agreement with Intelsat to leverage three satellite video neighborhoods for broadcasting throughout Latin America. The company plans to use Intelsat 21 at 302 degrees east, Intelsat 11 at 317 degrees east, and later Intelsat 34, following its 2015 launch to 304.5 degrees east.

HBO LAG will use Intelsat’s satellite capacity to distribute programming to cable, Direct-to-Home (DTH) and IPTV providers. Additionally, the company will use the terrestrial network, IntelsatOneSM, and Intelsat’s teleport restoration program.

“Alongside Intelsat 21 and Intelsat 11, Intelsat 34 will reach millions of viewers; with close to 700 channels, including over 60 HD channels and about 80 of the top 100 pay TV channels in region,” said Carmen González-Sanfeliu, regional vice president of Latin America and Caribbean operations for Intelsat.
