[Satellite TODAY 04-20-11] DigitalGlobe has raised the orbit of its QuickBird satellite, the company announced April 19.
DigitalGlobe lifted QuickBird from its previous 450-kilometer orbit to a new slot 482 kilometers above the Earth’s surface. Service was not affected during the process, which began in late March.
The company said the new orbit would extend QuickBird’s life through early 2014. DigitalGlobe previously expected QuickBird to remain operational throughout mid-2012. QuickBird is part of DigitalGlobe’s sub-meter satellite constellation, which includes the WorldView-1 and WorldView-2 satellites.
