NOAA Issues $10.3 Million Award for Climate Data Records Management

[Satellite TODAY 09-20-10] Global Science & Technology has been awarded a $10.3 million contract by the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to help manage the agency’s satellite Climate Data Records (CDR) program, based at NOAA’s National Climatic Data Center in Asheville, N.C., NOAA announced Sept. 17.
    The contract has a one-year base period, with two one-year option periods.
    Global Science & Technology will provide management support of the CDR program, including project control and oversight services, system and product development, and customer and community outreach.
     NOAA scientists use CDRs to detect, assess, model and predict climate change and variability. The data is then used to develop effective strategies to adapt to and mitigate the impacts of climate change in their local communities. These climate services aim to provide a wide range of practical uses, from helping farmers know what and when to plant, to guiding resource managers with critical decisions about water, energy and other vital assets.
