[Satellite TODAY 08-22-12] Norwegian technology developer Kongsberg confirmed Aug. 21 that its Kongsberg Satellite Services (KSAT) business unit was awarded a $22.4 million contract to provide ground station services for NASA’s next generation of weather satellites.

The five-year contract will require KSAT to use its ground stations in Svalbard, Norway and Antarctica to provide services to NASA’s JPSS satellites, as well as to the Japanese satellite GCOM-W1. The ground stations will be operated from KSAT’s main office in Tromsoe, Norway.
KSAT is a commercial satellite center that is half-owned by Kongsberg and the Norwegian Department of Trade and Industry through the Norwegian Space Center.
