Gilat To Provide Network Solution For Brazilian Operator

[12-19-07 – Satellite Today] Gilat Satellite Networks Ltd. completed the first phase of a turnkey satellite network solution for Vivo, Gilat announced Dec. 18.
    Vivo, a customer of Brazil’s Telecomunicações de Sao Paulo (Telesp), deployed a GSM network using Gilat’s SkyAbis technology to provide backhaul and trunking to remote sites in north, northeast and central west Brazil.
    “Our agreement with Telesp demonstrates our expertise in providing full turnkey networks,” Russell Ribeiro, general manager of Gilat do Brasil, said in a statement. “Telesp chose Gilat in 2006 to meet its universal service obligation, and we are proud to continue this relationship with the first phase of the Vivo project with other phases to follow.”
