[10-11-07 – Satellite Today]  RAMTelecom Inc. has been awarded a $468,000 contract by ShopCast to provide satellite services to support the EK3 Narrowcasting network in Wal-Mart Canada stores, RAMTelecom announced Oct. 10.

ShopCast will use RAMTelecom services to enable the EK3 Narrowcasting Network to run Wal-Mart’s closed circuit TV. The in-store network is built around LCD screens that communicate directly with shoppers and are set up in high-traffic areas and at cash registers.

The first part of the project will bring the network into 60 stores across Canada and is planned to take five years.

“We are very excited about our participation with ShopCast and EK3 in the delivery of what will become, the largest narrowcasting retail network in Canada,”said Ralph Misener, RAMTelecom CEO. “The digital signage market is a multi-billion dollar industry worldwide where file delivery over satellite is not a new concept. RAMTelecom has proven satellite’s superb reliability and cost-effectiveness to open up this market in Canada. In doing so, we believe RAMTelecom has shown itself to be Canada’s leader in satellite services.”
