Women in Aerospace Announces 2012 Award Winners

[Satellite TODAY 09-20-12] The Women in Aerospace organization announced nine winners Sept. 20 for its 2012 award for contributions to the aerospace industry and to the advancement of women in the field.

   SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell won the outstanding achievement award for her work with industry scholarships. NASA Johnson Space Center Public Affairs Specialist Susan Anderson won the Aerospace Awareness Award. Shella Condino, an advanced placement Physics and Chemistry teacher at Presidio High School, Texas, won the Aerospace Educator Award. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas) and ASI European Space Policy Observatory’s Simonetta Di Pippo both won Leadership Awards. U.S. Air Force Space and Missile Systems Center’s Lt. Gen. Ellen Pawlikowski won the Lifetime Achievement Award.
   Debra Facktor Lepore, an industry professor at the Stevens Institute of Technology and president of DFL Space won the Outstanding Member Award and Kirstyn Marie Johnson, a junior in aerospace engineering sciences at the University of Colorado at Boulder won the Women in Aerospace Foundation Scholarship. Johnson will receive a $1,000 scholarship to be applied to the 2012-2013 academic year.
