Iceye is expanding its business to now give governments and large multinational corporations the option to purchase their own radar imaging satellites. As part of the new Missions line of business announced Tuesday, customers can purchase a Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellite and operate it independently, or Iceye will manage the spacecraft on their behalf.

Iceye said this offering was developed in response to market interest, and the company has already secured complete satellite missions with several international customers. Two of the satellites launched in May 2022 which were provided to the Brazilian Air Force (BAF), which will own and operate the satellites for environmental and national security objectives.

Steve Young, Iceye’s former vice president of Business Development and Sales will lead the new line as president of Satellite Missions. Young previously worked at BAE Systems and Surrey Satellite Technology, and co-founded the company Earth-i.

“As the only organization in the world to rapidly deliver proven high-precision SAR satellites, we are excited to offer our Iceye SAR satellites for customer missions and enable organizations to have independent control of this reliable and repeatable information source,” Young commented.
