An EchoStar subsidiary signed a deal with The Things Industries to deploy hybrid satellite and LoRa IoT solutions to businesses across Europe. The companies are introducing satellite connectivity to The Things Stack LoRaWAN network server and its generic node concept edition, to expand the reach of its IoT network.

The Things Stack is a LoRaWAN Network Server for connectivity, management, and monitoring of devices, gateways and end-user applications. It is designed to enable security, scalability and reliability of data routing throughout the network.

This EchoStar collaboration allows customers to connect IoT devices for real-time, two-way communications over satellite or terrestrial networks using a dual-transport, generic node. The Things Industries is offering a limited time free trial for each device connected for its customers.

“With plug-and-play simplicity, this collaboration between EchoStar Mobile and The Things Network enables terrestrial and satellite transports to be integrated easily into the same node or module for IoT applications,” said Telemaco Melia, vice president and general manager of EchoStar Mobile. “It’s a breakthrough that enables cost-effective IoT deployments with seamless coverage so customers can be sure their devices remain connected anytime, anywhere, within the service area – even in the most remote places.”

This follows after last year, EchoStar Mobile Limited launched a European satellite-based LoRa IoT service.
