D Viewers of ITV, Channel 4 and Five who use a Solus Free-to-Air viewing card with a Sky Digibox look set to lose those channels in the near future. As the BBC is no longer funding the cards, and the other 3 UK networks are not prepared to take up the costs, only subscribers to Sky Digital will be able to continue viewing the channels. This is going to be a major setback for some devotees of Channel 4 and Five as satellite DTH is their only means of receiving them. The terrestrial coverage of Channel 4, and more especially Five, is certainly not complete. Some of the children’s channels have been moved around in the Sky EPG. Fox Kids is now at Ch.609, Fox Kids+1 – Ch.610; Disney Channel – Ch.611; Disney Channel+1 – 612; Toon Disney – Ch.613; Playhouse Disney – Ch.614; Discovery Kids – Ch.615; CBBC – Ch.616; Cbeebies – Ch.617; Nick Junior – Ch.618 and finally Pop – Ch.619. another adult/erotic channel has joined the Sky Digital line-up. Pout Uncut claims to be the cheapest channel in this growing genre with rates at GBP5.00 registration and GBP3.95 per night. Pout Uncut is at Ch.984. as mentioned last time, L!VE TV is to launch within the next few days and will occupy Ch.274.The regional versions of BBC One and BBC Two will enter the Sky EPG on 29 July and will be available to all viewers irrespective of their location within the UK. The postcode specific regional versions will still appear at channels 101 and 102 as at present. London’s very popular Kiss FM radio station is to join the Sky Digital line-up soon along with Smash Hits Radio. The channels have just started test transmissions on 12324 MHz vertical. E4+1 has now started regular programming on 11565 MHz vertical, Ch.206.

Two more Indian channels have joined the GlobeCast bouquet at 10949 MHz vertical, SR 27500, FEC 3/4. They are Sun TV and Surya TV on PIDs V6401/6501, A6411/6511. Both channels are free-to-air. Sun TV is based in Chennai in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu and broadcasts in the Tamil language. Surya TV also hails from Chennai and broadcasts to Tamil Nadu and the neighbouring state of Kerala in the Malayalam language. The Russian 1st TV channel, Perviy kanal Vsemirnaya setj, has joined the RTV International bouquet at 11938 MHz horizontal, SR 27500, FEC 3/4, VPID 96, APID 166 in clear MPEG-2. Iran TV Network and Tapesh TV have launched within the Croatian HRT platform at 12520 MHz vertical, SR 27500, FEC 3/4, VPIDs 300/306, APIDs 301/307. Global Radio and FM Italia have joined the Network Teleport Italia multiplex at 11200 MHz vertical, SR 27500, FEC 5/6 via APIDs 2050/2065. The Iraq Media Network is using Hotbird capacity to feed programmes to those in Iraq lucky enough to own a satellite dish. The programmes are aired from 15:00-16:00 daily [18:00-19:00 in Iraq] on 11137 MHz horizontal which is the transponder used by Kurdistan Satellite TV. Programming consists of music and local and national news. The Iraq Media Network is based in Arbil in the north of Iraq. A new channel for the Jewish community in Europe has joined the GlobeCast package at 11623 MHz vertical, SR 27500, FEC 3/4, VPID 221, APID 241. It is entitled Chai TV and is based in Paris.

The subject of jamming has reared its ugly head again with claims that some of the US-based Farsi language channels aimed at Iranians have been deliberately jammed. The channels in question include Channel One, Pars TV and National Iranian TV plus the Voice of America’s Farsi programme. All of these use Telstar 12 capacity. The source of the jamming, according to US sources, is the Cuban capital, Havana. Macro FM has been replaced by another store radio station, Homebase FM at 11501 MHz horizontal, SR 6620, FEC 2/3, APID 1321 in clear MPEG-2.
