Inmarsat Launches 24-hour Low-Cost FleetBroadband Calling Service

By Staff Writer | September 15, 2009

[Satellite TODAY 09-15-09] Inmarsat is set to launch its Enhanced Super Quiet Time (ESQT) calling service for its FleetBroadband maritime users, the MSS operator announced Sept. 14.
Starting Oct. 1, seafarers onboard vessels that are using the Inmarsat FleetBroadband service will have access to ESQT, which aims to provide lower cost calling, 24 hours a day, across all three FleetBroadband variants – FB 500, FB 250 and FB 150.
Inmarsat said the new service launch evolved over the years, starting from being a few hours a day when initially launched, to being extended to 12 hours on weekdays and 24 hours a day during weekends and special promotions.
“This is our way of giving something back to the industry especially in a time when the shipping industry is suffering from the effects of the economic downturn. We know that cheaper cost calls make a significant contribution in improving crew morale and we hope that this offering will help shipping companies in their crew retention strategy,” said Inmarsat Marketing Manager, Kartik Sinha, in a statement.
