Harris Opens Maryland GOES-R Facility

      [Satellite TODAY 02-08-10] Harris Corp. has opened a 24,000-square-foot office in Maryland to support its 10-year GOES-R satellite ground segment contract with the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) , the company announced Feb. 4.
          The contract, worth a potential $736 million, involves the design, development, deployment and operation GOES-R’s ground segment, which will process satellite weather data to more than 10,000 direct users as well as provide command and control of current operational satellites. Harris also will provide the command and control of operational satellites.
          The office will be situated in Greenbelt, Md. and will house 100 workers.
