[Satellite TODAY 08-12-11] Canadian essential information satellite solutions company MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates (MDA) has been contracted to provide Radarsat-2 satellite imagery to the European Space Agency (ESA), MDA announced Aug. 11.
The contract, valued at more than $11 million with funding from the European Union, will see MDA deliver Radarsat imagery from June 2011 until May 2014.
MDA said the Radarsat-2 imagery would be used to provide mission critical information for sea ice monitoring of the Baltic Sea and Arctic Ocean throughout the ice seasons, support disaster relief, improve the safety of maritime navigation, asset monitoring and mapping applications in support of the Global Monitoring for Environment and Security (GMES) program.
