South Korea will try again to launch its first satellite by the end of this month. Government officials announced they will attempt the launch during the Jan. 30 – Feb. 8 window. The satellite will be launched aboard the Korea Space Launch Vehicle-1 (KSLV-1) from the Naro Space Center.
According to reports, the rocket’s first stage, built by Russia, and second stage, manufactured in South Korea, will be linked this week in preparation for rehearsals next week. The KSLV-1 will deploy a small satellite that will mainly collect data on space radiation.
This launch has been postponed twice in October and November 2012, and the country has had two previous failed launch attempts. In 2009 the carrier achieved orbit but its second stage failed thwarting the correct deployment of the satellite. In 2010, the rocket exploded two minutes into its flight.
