A new agreement between Maxar Intelligence and Satellogic allows Maxar to task Satellogic’s constellation to support national security missions for the U.S. government and select U.S. partners internationally.
The companies said in a Dec. 11 announcement that bringing together Satellogic’s high frequency revisit capability with Maxar’s high resolution imaging and AI technologies “creates a differentiated offering in the market,” and helps balance cost, resolution, and revisit frequency. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Explaining how this will work, the companies said Maxar can task Satellogic imagery and use machine learning models to monitor activity and detect change. Then, when Maxar wants to better understand that activity it can collect a 30 cm-class image with its WorldView Legion satellites.
Maxar talked about the benefits of adding Satellogic into its virtual constellation. Satellogic has a growing constellation and has launched 51 satellites.
“In today’s dynamic environment, warfighters and intelligence analysts need to be able to detect and understand change over many areas of interest simultaneously,” said Peter Wilczynski, chief product officer at Maxar Intelligence. “To achieve this more ambitious mission, customers need access to more than one constellation — tipping and cueing between sensors to balance between cost, revisit and resolution is essential. Adding Satellogic into our virtual constellation allows us to deliver timely mission-critical insights to our U.S. and international government customers at even greater scale.”
This news comes after Satellogic announced a $10 million investment earlier this week from an unnamed “significant” institutional investor aimed at helping the company grow in the U.S. market, the national security market, and global space systems opportunities.
