The Coalition to Save Our GPS has responded to the FCC’s request for comments on LightSquared’s request to change the Ancillary Terrestrial Communications (ATC) authorization of its Mobile Satellite Services (MSS) to allow the firm to launch a broadband network.
The Coalition submitted a document to the FCC with suggestions on how to prevent GPS interference that could occur with LightSquared’s petition. Recommendations such as requiring the company to “relinquish authority” over certain frequencies, and having it use new lower-frequency bands to keep the traditionally “quiet neighborhood” around GPS frequencies, are part of the Coalition’s document.
This extends the battle between LightSquared and the Coalition to Save Our GPS, which was formed in 2011 by different organizations and companies – many from the aviation industry – with the specific objective of opposing the company’s launch.
