Rolls Out New X-, C-band Manpack BUCs

Canadian satellite broadcast equipment manufacturer Advantech Wireless has released a 20-Watt GaN X-band and C-band block up-converter (BUC) suited for harsh environments such as man-pack terminal deployments.

The manpack terminal features a lightweight, small-size frame and high-power BUC that is available in X-band or C-band configurations. The integrated unit comes complete with power supply, phase-locked oscillator, mixer, filter and a cooling mechanism that weighs less than 5 lbs.

Inks $5.9 Million in Government Contracts

Satellite-based managed network services provider Globecomm Systems has received various infrastructure contracts from U.S. government agencies valued at $5.9 million.

Globecomm will provide hardware, software and associated engineering services, including: WGS certified Summit X-band field terminals with integral AxxSys Orion Monitor and Control Software; Gateway Terminal Technology Refresh incorporating solid state amplifier hardware and AxxSys Orion software; and life cycle support services. The company said it anticipates the completion of these contracts in its 2013 fiscal fourth quarter.

Launches Connect at Sea Connectivity Application

MTN Satellite Communications (MTN) and Wireless Maritime Services (WMS) have teamed up to launch the Connect at Sea voice application, which aims to enable maritime passengers and crew to make cost-effective phone calls and send text messages from their personal mobile devices while at sea.

Connect at Sea works with a maritime vessel’s Wi-Fi infrastructure and data/voice prioritization strategy, delivering high voice quality while keeping bandwidth usage low. MTN and WMS said customers would not be required to purchase an Internet plan to use the application and can download it from the Apple iTunes or Google Android stores.

Awarded $13.5 Million Government Services Deal

EADS Astrium subsidiary Vizada has been awarded a multi-year contract valued at more than $13.5 million to provide satellite services to a U.S. government agency.

Vizada will provide Inmarsat BGAN and SwiftBroadband services, including static IP addressing, voice, video, data and messaging, in support of a full spectrum of operations worldwide.
