Atrexx Launches 2way2sat Services in Iraq

Atrexx, a German provider of telecommunications and broadcast solutions, is offering satellite-based communications services to the Iraq region via Eutelsat’s Eurobird 4A satellite.

The Atrexx service, 2way2sat, will use Eurobird 4A’s wide beam coverage encompassing Europe, the Atlantic Islands, North Africa and the Middle East.

The service is based on the iDirect Evolution platform and includes next-generation X3 satellite routers equipped with DVB-S2 standard with adaptive coding and modulation. Service features allow for a range of IP applications, including virtual private networks, Voice over IP, telephony and videoconferencing.
 

Gilat Deploys SkyEdge 2 VSAT Internet Service on Kazakhstan Passenger Railways

Gilat Satellite Networks deployed a broadband satellite Internet service for passengers of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, the national railway company of Kazakhstan. Transtelecom, Kazakhstan’s government-owned telco, selected Gilat as the satellite equipment provider and local service provide Astel, to manage the equipment installation.

As part of the rollout, Gilat’s installed its SkyEdge 2 VSAT platform on the Tulpar, the railway’s fastest train, in August. Using an auto-pointing satellite terminal installed on the roof of the train, the VSAT solution provides Voice over IP and data transmission.
 

Global Satellite USA Adds Thuraya XT Handset

Global Satellite USA has launched the Thuraya XT rugged handset with broadband service on Thuraya’s satellite network.

The service, aimed at military and government users, allows GmPRS e-mail capability, SMS text messaging and Web browsing at download speeds of 60 kilobits per second (kbps) and upload speeds of 15 kbps as well as data speeds at 9.6 kbps, from a remote laptop.

The handset is for customers who move around in areas where local networks are unreliable or non-existent and require durable and weather-resistant models.
 

Globalstar Enhances Simplex Network

Globalstar is upgrading its network to enhance the messaging capacity and the data receiver sensitivity of the Globalstar Simplex data network.

The upgrades, supplied by Comtech Aero Astro, are expected to increase receiver sensitivity and expand Simplex’s geographic coverage area. The Simplex data network is used to support a variety of emergency asset, fleet management and personal tracking applications as well as Globalstar’s Spot Satellite GPS Messenger products.
 

Hughes Network Systems Expands U.S. Government Network Services

Hughes Network Systems expanded its managed network service offering to include support for government telework initiatives.

The expanded broadband, security and management services will support incremental telework programs to increase employee productivity and enhanced continuity of operations by ensuring employees remain connected during an emergency. The service will also work to lower costs for government agencies by outsourcing its network services to a single vendor rather than trying to manage an array of providers.
