Northrop To Vie For Ground-based Midcourse Defense Program Segment

Northrop Grumman Corp. [NOC] will compete for a piece of the work on the Ground-based Midcourse missile Defense (GMD) program, the company announced.

The Missile Defense Agency (MDA) last month issued a request for information (RFI) for the GMD segment follow-on effort, and responses must be submitted by Dec. 31.

According to the RFI, posted in Federal Business Opportunities Nov. 20, the MDA is "developing a follow-on contract strategy for the continuation of spiral development, test, fielding, sustainment of the GMD system, and integration of the GMD system with the BMDS (Ballistic Missile Defense System)."

Northrop also participates in other BMD systems, including the Kinetic Energy Interceptor, Space Tracking and Surveillance System, Missile Defense Integration and Operations Center, the chemical laser portion of the Airborne Laser, and fire control and communications systems.
