Lockheed Martin to Help Joint Coalition Manage Radio Spectrum
The U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Research and Development Engineering Center awarded Lockheed Martin a contract to development technology intended to automate and accelerate spectrum planning, the company announced Sept. 28.
Lockheed Martin will develop the Coalition Joint Spectrum Management and Planning Tool (CJSMPT), which is intended to make it easier for troops to communicate on the battlefield while reducing the potential of jamming. The tool will display a 3-D view of frequency use by land, air and space emitters and allow commanders to predict potential interference.
“In the short term, CJSMPT will immediately optimize spectrum use to mitigate the effects of jamming on coalition military systems,” Bill Kline, CJMSPT principal investigator, Advanced Technology Laboratories, said in a statement. “In the long term, it will provide an automated planning tool to mange battlefield spectrum much more efficiently.”
The contract, valued at $5.2 million if all options are exercised, calls for deliveries within 11 months.
