Members of SPATEA (Spar Professional and Allied Technical Employee’s Association) employed at MDA Space Missions are preparing to strike , MacDonald Dettwiler announced June 21.

The employees have been working without a contract since the collective bargaining agreement expired Dec. 31, though negotiations continue, MacDonald Dettwiler said. If no agreement is reached, the strike will begin at 11 a.m. EDT June 22.

MDA Space Missions, based in Brampton, Ontario, was acquired from Spar Aerospace in 1999 and previously was known as MD Robotics. The division manufactured the Canadarm used on NASA’s space shuttle and the Mobile Servicing System on the international space station.
