JAXA, CNES Sign Jason-2 Agreement
The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) signed a memorandum of understanding with the Centre National d’Etudes Spatiales (CNES), the French space agency, to place space environment measurement equipment on the Jason-2 satellite.
Under the agreement, JAXA will develop a Light Particle Telescope that will be given to CNES in November. JAXA will be in charge of processing the LPT data while CNES develop Jason-2 as well as other onboard equipment for the mission and operate the satellite.
The launch of Jason-2 is scheduled to be performed by NASA in mid 2008..
