SES Americom announced Sept. 8 that its Washington International Teleport (WIT) earth station and HD-Prime neighborhood aboard the AMC-10 and AMC-11 satellites have been selected to monitor and distribute all U.S. networks for Discovery Communications and BBC America.

Under the multi-year, multi-million-dollar agreement, Discovery’s Sterling, Virginia-based digital playout facility is linked to SES Americom’s WIT facility in nearby Alexandria, where 19 Discovery network feeds are being monitored and uplinked to the twin spacecraft orbiting above the Earth. Once aboard the HD-Prime satellites, programming is delivered to cable and direct-to-home satellite households across the country. Discovery’s networks reach 676 million cumulative subscribers in the United States.

In separate news, SES Americom said Deutsche Welle has chosen SES Americom’s DigitalC platform aboard the AMC-1 satellite to provide the delivery of programming across America. Deutsche Welle, a German government-sponsored broadcaster, is a producer and provider of international news and feature coverage. Under the multi-year agreement, SES Americon receives DW-TV and DW-Radio content at its Digital Media Center in Woodbine, Maryland, where the content is then processed for digital distribution on the DigitalC platform. Deutsche Welle programming is then uplinked to the AMC-1 spacecraft and delivered to cable headends and ultimately to television viewers and radio listeners from coast to coast.
