The Voom saga reached its conclusion as this issue was going to press when Cablevision formally said it would shut down its struggling Rainbow DBS direct-to-home satellite television service, which does business under the Voom brand name.

In a Form 8-K submitted to the Securities and Exchange Commission, Cablevision said its board of directors at an April 7 meeting confirmed its shut down “and provided management with specific directives on shut down implementation, including advising customers that the Voom service will cease to be available on April 30. The filing added that the board of directors instructed management to “continue to analyze whether its Voom 21 channels can be marketed to other satellite and cable providers.”
