Modulus Video said it opened a new office in Tokyo, Japan to support the growing demand from satellite, telecommunications and cable service providers for MPEG-4 AVC video encoding systems. Broadcast industry veteran Shigeru Nakayama was hired as the general manager for Japan operations to lead the Modulus expansion into the Japanese market.

“Global interest in mission-critical caliber, visually superior, bandwidth-saving MPEG-4 AVC encoding solutions is growing at a remarkable pace,” Modulus Video Chairman and CEO Bob Wilson said in a prepared statement. “This is particularly evident in Japan where MPEG-4 AVC already is in use for mobile applications.”
