Norsat International Inc. said it added a new line of solid-state power amplifiers (SSPA) to its product line and is describing those amplifiers as the smallest and lightest high-powered transmitters in the marketplace. The new line is available in 8W, 10W, 20W, 25W and 50W versions.

“This new line of SSPAs is exciting on two levels,” Amiee Chan, vice president of operations at Norsat said in a prepared statement. “First, broadband data transmissions is on the rise and the demand for higher-powered SSPAs is poised to continue to grow. Secondly, miniaturization and weight reduction are growing concerns of earth station and VSAT providers and the gains made in bringing the lightest solid state power amplifier to market cannot be underscored enough. The technology is the culmination of 10 years of research and development.”
