Orbital Sciences Corp. said it has completed the design, manufacturing and testing process for the Telkom 2 C-band satellite for PT Telkomunikasi Indonesia Tbk (PT Telkom), Indonesia’s state-owned telecommunications company. The satellite is based on Orbital’s Star-2 satellite platform and carries 24 C-band transponders. The satellite will allow PT Telkom to expand its satellite communications coverage area form the Indonesian archipelago into the Southeast Asian region and the Indian subcontinent. The company is also supplying PT Telkom with a complete ground station, including hardware and operations software.

The satellite is scheduled to be launched in the first half of this year by Arianespace from its Kourou, French Guiana launch site to an orbital position at 118 degrees East.
