President-elect Donald Trump nominated Olivia Trusty as a Republican commissioner for the Federal Communications Commission, Trump announced Jan. 16.

Trusty is currently the policy director for the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation. She previously served as a legislative assistant for Senator Roger Wicker and Congressman Bob Latta. She has also worked on the Digital Commerce and Consumer Protection subcommittee and was a senior consultant at Verizon.

Trump said in a statement that in her work as a policy director, “she has fought tirelessly to grow the economy, empower innovation, and reignite the American dream.”

Trusty will work with Brendan Carr, recently nominated for chairman of the FCC by Trump in November 2024. Trump said the two will work together “to cut regulations at record speed, protect free speech, and ensure every American has access to affordable and fast internet.”

Carr commented: “Her extensive knowledge, public sector experience, and keen intellect will serve her well at the agency. I look forward to welcoming her to the FCC as a colleague and to working together to deliver great results for the American people.”

Democratic FCC Commissioners Geoffrey Starks and Anna Gomez issued statements congratulating Trusty. Commissioner Starks stated: “As clearly exhibited by her work in the Senate, she is an effective policy-maker, which will benefit the agency and the American people going forward.”

The Satellite Industry Association also issued a statement congratulating Trusty on her nomination.

“SIA and its members congratulate Olivia Trusty on being nominated as a new Commissioner of the FCC,” said Tom Stroup, president of the Satellite Industry Association. “Ms. Trusty brings with her a wealth of policy expertise regarding space, cyber and national security and SIA strongly encourages the U.S. Senate to rapidly confirm her nomination.”
