The Dominion Post (New Zealand) reported Jan. 24 that Nzlsat has submitted an application with the New Zealand Economic Development Ministry to launch a new satellite that would be located above the country at 158 degrees East. The report did not detail what the proposed satellite would be used for, but it did mention that Nzlsat would need to raise $165 million to complete the project if it is approved. The orbital slot is being offered by the New Zealand government on a first come, first served basis. In the bidding process, bids promoting national interests will gain preference.
