Northern Sky Research today said, “unlike the experience of the late 1990s, next generation mobile satellite services based on the consumption of high-speed data, not narrowband voice, will be a sustainable and viable business proposition over time.”

In its latest report, “Next Generation Mobile Satellite Services,” the research firm forecasts the mobile satellite market, which earned an estimated $63.9 million in revenues in 2003, will reach close to $1.3 billion by 2010 and will yield $3.7 billion in cumulative revenues over an eight year period, with growth being driven by the government/military sector and the commercial airline industry.
