Satellite Today has learned that the European Space Agency‘s European Space Research and Technology Center is testing the design-worthiness of an experimental Galileo satellite built by Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd. The satellite is the first of two experimental Galileo satellites scheduled for launch in 2005. At this time, they will be used to secure the signal frequencies allocated to the ESA’s satellite navigation system as well as to allow for ground testing of the future satellite constellation that will work in conjunction with the U.S. GPS satellite-navigation system.
