Dish Broadcasts Inaugural Season Of American ProCricket

By Staff Writer | July 20, 2004

EchoStar Communications Corp. [DISH] will broadcast the regular season and playoff games of ProCricket, the first professional cricket league in the United States, on a pay-per-view basis to its Dish Network direct-to-home satellite television subscribers.

It will be interesting to see the buy rates for such a service. While Dish has in the past broadcast international cricket matches, it remains to be seen whether an Americanized version of the game, which incorporates time limits and a cricket version of the designated hitter rule used in the American League of Major League Baseball, will click with cricket aficionados who subscribe to Dish.
