New Ship Security System Unveiled

By Staff Writer | June 7, 2004

EMS SATCOM, a division of EMS Technologies [ELMG], today launched its Ship Security Alert System (SSAS).

The system was designed to meet the demands of SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea), Chapter XI-2, Regulation 6, which requires all Class 1 and 2 international trading vessels to be equipped with ship security alert systems. Roughly 20,000 Class 1 vessels worldwide will be required to install a SSAS on or before June 30, 2005, while Class 2 vessels, numbering 25,000, have until June 30, 2007.

With an independent power supply and covert activation points, the EMS Satcom SSAS will send an alert via the COSPAS-SARSAT network automatically.
