OnStar Helps Police Capture FBI Fugitive

OnStar, a Troy, Mich.-based GPS system for automobiles, helped the FBI capture a suspect featured on “America’s Most Wanted.” An OnStar subscriber filed a missing-car report to the Williamson County Sheriff Department in Tennessee March 7. After the report was filed, the department called OnStar to help find the missing Hummer H2.

Within minutes of the phone call, OnStar pinpointed the vehicle’s location, and the suspect soon was taken into custody. When his fingerprint information was submitted to the FBI by the local police department, authorities discovered the suspect had escaped from a Louisiana jail during July 2003, and he had been on the loose ever since. The suspect had been facing federal bank robbery charges.
