Inmarsat Executive Happy With Regional BGAN Performance

By Staff Writer | February 20, 2004

Inmarsat Managing Director Michael Butler believes the operator’s Regional BGAN service has been relatively successful so far. Regional BGAN delivers a seamless GPRS- compatible data service in as many as 99 countries using 144 Kbps shared channels. Butler told Satellite Today, “It (Regional BGAN) continues to go from strength to strength. We have seen good take up of the service. The number of terminals which have been activated is slightly less than we anticipated when the business plan went together, but the upside is that the average user is also using it more than we anticipated.”

An exclusive in-depth interview with Michael Butler can be found in the Feb. 23 issue of Satellite News. For more information about subscribing to PBI Media’s satellite newsletters, check out our Web site at www.satellitetoday.com.
