Alcatel Space has been selected to be the prime contractor on the European Union’s Maestro (mobile applications and services based on satellite and terrestrial internetworking) research and development project. The two-year project is valued at 10.15 million euros ($12.6 million), of which 5.2 million euros ($6.5 million) is being provided by the European Commission. The project will enable the development and implementation of satellite digital multimedia broadcast technology, which will complement third-generation mobile networks in providing broadband transmission capacity for multimedia services.
