Raytheon [NYSE: RTN], a Waltham, Mass.-based defense contractor, has received a contract from the U.S. Navy to develop terminals for its next- generation satellite communications (satcom) systems. The contract is to develop the Advanced Extremely High Frequency (AEHF) Multi-band Terminal (NMT) for the satcom system. The initial funding is $3.1 million, with a potential program value of $1.6 billion. NMT’s first phase launches with a 30-month development period, during which Raytheon will build AEHF satcom system prototypes. More than 300 NMT systems are scheduled for production through 2010.
