Harris [NYSE:HRS], a Melbourne, Fla.-based supplier of weather data processing systems to the U.S military and other government agencies, has signed a contract to provide U.S. mobile forces with real-time weather data transmitted to their laptop computers via satellite.

The weather products are generated by the U.S. Air Force Weather Agency and the 28th Operational Weather Squadron, and then transmitted to one of two commercial satellites operated by WorldSpace satellite radio network. The weather data is then broadcast directly from these satellites to the portable receivers and laptops of the soldiers and Air Force personnel.
